About NEMAF

Nepal Madhesh Foundation (NEMAF) is an independent non-governmental organization, established in September,2007. Its head office is located at Kupandole, Lalitpur and the provincial office is at Janakpur, Nepal.

NEMAF has been working at different levels (Federal, Provincial and Local) with different stakeholders. Its major goal is to be a part of the journey of a socially harmonized and economically developed Madhesh.

NEMAF’s main approach of working is as a bridge between the state and the society to enhance participative & inclusive democracy in Nepal. It has been working with the public, leaders, law makers and government officials at different levels to bridge the gap between state and society.

NEMAF has been continuously involved in researches, dialogues, discussions, publications and other related activities in this field. Its main objective is to strengthen the civil society from the grass root level for better quality of school education and governance at local level. It has been also working to enhance the social harmony in society. In the last 13 years, NEMAF has had partnerships with different national and international organizations in order to achieve its goals.

Mission, Vision and Goal

NEMAF’s mission is to be a part of the journey of a socially harmonized & economically developed Madhesh by empowering the people & strengthening the governance. NEMAF is committed to create an unbiased, non-partisan and democratic forum, through which issues of peace and development can be researched and the results disseminated to all kinds of stakeholders involved in nation building.

Objectives

To work as an agent of social transformation and to improve education in public schools in Madhesh.
To empower women, Dalits and Muslims for their meaningful participation in the process of governance of different levels in Madhesh.
To conduct field surveys & researches on the evolving socio-economic and political dynamics in Nepal, especially concerning Madhesh.
To conduct action oriented surveys and researches on natural resources, land holding patterns and possible reform measures, productive infrastructures and facilities, health and sanitation, poverty and environmental issues in Madhesh.
To disseminate findings facilitating a wider exchange of ideas through seminars, conferences, public forums, and informal discussions, and to publish findings, documents, policy relevant reports, and information regarding technological innovations benefiting the rural community.
To undertake projects on promoting and supporting empowerment, social integration, capability of women, Dalits, Janajatis, Muslims and other socio-economically deprived communities in Madhesh.
To develop and execute field programs with the participation of local community for the reduction of poverty, gender and social inequality, malnutrition, health and sanitation problems, and environmental degradation in rural areas.

Strategic Approaches

Local Level

Local stakeholders and members of the local community will be trained in different parts of Madhesh to engage with the issues identified. They will be trained so that they can analyzed the facts and figures on their own and organize advocacy activities at the local level. This will help to develop a critical mass of civil society at the local level.

Provincial & Federal levels

NEMAF’s work at the local level with its own staff or partner organizations and its own research activities will generate facts and figures for advocacy at provincial & federal levels. Advocacy activities will be launched, preferably in alliance with like-minded organizations, by identifying specific methods, target groups and anticipated outputs. Advocacy activities will be followed up and advocacy outputs in particular will be closely monitored and documented for future references.
